Name Wrapping
Names can be managed under two different standards, each offering unique advantages.
You can check the wrapping status on the dashboard on vet.domains.
Unwrapped / ERC721 Names
Names can exist as unwrapped
entities, represented by ERC721 tokens.
This standard is the foundation for NFTs and allows for trading on most marketplaces.
An unwrapped name distinguishes between the "name manager" and the "name owner".
The manager has the authority to alter settings for a name. Meanwhile, the name owner has the right to reclaim complete control at any time.
When the NFT is transferred, the name ownership changes hands, but the manager remains the same.
Wrapped / ERC1155 Names
Names can be wrapped
within a contract that issues ERC1155 tokens. This newer NFT standard supports the creation of sub-tokens.
Sub-tokens enable the issuance of NFTs for subnames, such as subname.vechain.vet
, which can have distinct owners.
Permissions can be set to even prevent the removal of sub-tokens.
